General Questions

We use PayPal to process recurring donations. To make changes, you’ll need to log in to your PayPal account and manage your active subscriptions directly from there.

The SPCA of Texas (https://www.spca.org) handles rescue and investigations teams for eight local counties and you may contact them at 214-461-1850. 

If you are outside Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains & Van Zandt counties, call your local law enforcement. Texas law protects animals from cruelty and abuse.

It is our mission to rescue animals from the DFW area animal shelters. Thus we limit our intake to pets that come from animal shelters. There are many shelters you can consult to see if they have capacity.

Like many rescue organizations, PAWS does not have a physical shelter. The pets we rescue from the municipal shelter or from other life-threatening situations are housed in foster homes or boarding/training facilities.

Our dogs and cats come from local animal shelters.

Adoptions

The application will be received by the Placement team, and one of the Adoption Coordinators will call you to review your application. After the phone call, approved applications will be sent to the Foster Coordinator to coordinate getting your potential new family member to you for an introduction or play date.
​Indicate that on your application and the Paws In the City coordinator will do their best to accommodate your request and make the necessary arrangements.

We move the process along as quickly as possible, but our top priority is finding a loving, forever home for the pet—and however long that takes, we’re okay with it.

The team will screen on a first-come,first-serve basis but if you are second or even fifth, it is always possible the fifth applicant could be the best fit for the dog.
The team will coordinate the meeting of the pet(s) sometimes at your home or sometimes at a park or one of our weekly events. You will get a copy of the adoption contract and adoption process letter. This will happen as quickly as we can coordinate with your schedule and the foster’s availability.
Paws in the City will do a home visit to assist with introducing your pets to the new pet and also to check the home environment (indoors and out) to ensure everything is right for the pet. We will work around your schedule.
We can have one of our trainers help you with tips for the transition. In the rare event that is not successful, we will take the pet back so another family can make it a part of their loving home.
You can email us at [email protected], and we will make sure you connect with the pet! For instance, if we know you want to meet a particular dog, we connect you at one of our adoption events or a private get-to-know-you session.

To begin the adoption process, first submit an application. Once we’ve received it, we’ll schedule a virtual meeting with our team to get to know you better and answer any questions. If it’s a good fit, we’ll arrange a virtual meet-and-greet with the dog you’re interested in and their foster. From there, we’ll set up an in-person meeting so you can spend time together. If everything goes well, the final step is signing the contract and completing the adoption process.

Fostering

We provide for all medical expenses including monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. You typically provide the food, litter, toys and TLC! However, if you need help gathering these things please notify us, and we will do everything we can to provide for the animals in our program. We can loan a crate to you while you are fostering, just let us know before receiving your foster pet so we can coordinate this. It should be returned to us when you can no longer foster.
You will get attached, but remember you are literally saving a life. Being a foster parent for homeless animals is a rewarding and gratifying experience. It’s always important to remember that when one gets adopted, it will open your home to a new homeless pet that is in need of your loving care.
Not a problem! Contact your foster coordinator as far in advance as possible to make arrangements for your foster with either boarding or a temporary foster parent.
First, complete the Foster Application. A foster coordinator will work with you after they have received the foster application.
You provide a temporary home for a homeless animal. Normally, you keep the animal in your care until a permanent home is found.
We ask that you care for the dog or cat as if it were your own – integrating it and socializing it within your home and family. We ask that you keep their personality bio current, upload pics/videos frequently, and you are encouraged to bring the pet to as many adoption events as possible. We pay for vaccinations, heartworm, spay/neuter and all veterinary care. Because we do not have a shelter, the temporary home you provide for an animal is a life saving act.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a parent.
